Kenya has signed a Ksh390 billion ($3 billion) deal with Endelevu Enterprise Corporation to develop an integrated electric mobility industry in the country, in a major investment expected to boost local manufacturing and create thousands of jobs.

The project will go beyond vehicle assembly, with plans to establish a plant capable of producing 50,000 four-wheel electric vehicles annually, alongside another facility with the capacity to produce up to 100,000 two-wheelers and light mobility vehicles.

The investment will also support the development of 1,000 solar-powered charging hubs across the country and a digital platform designed to support as many as 100,000 green vehicles, creating an ecosystem to support the growing electric mobility sector.

Beyond transport, the project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs while strengthening local capabilities in manufacturing, engineering, logistics, charging infrastructure and fleet management.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Nairobi on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, President William Ruto said the investment would help Kenya reduce its reliance on imported finished vehicles by encouraging local value addition.

“We are determined to change that equation,” Ruto said, as he emphasised the government’s ambition to ensure that more economic opportunities and jobs are created within the country.

The deal comes as Kenya accelerates its transition towards electric mobility. The government launched its National Electric Mobility Policy earlier this year as part of efforts to promote the adoption and development of electric vehicles and related infrastructure.

The country’s electric vehicle market has also continued to expand, with 39,324 electric vehicles registered by 2025, according to the Ministry of Roads and Transport.

The new investment is therefore expected to give further momentum to Kenya’s e-mobility ambitions while positioning the country as a potential regional hub for electric vehicle manufacturing, charging infrastructure and green transport solutions.
