Samburu Council of Elders Seeks Probe Over Losesia Security Operation. By John Lebunge Sunday 27th September 2026

The Samburu Council of Elders Association, led by its Patron Retired Col. Richard Leyiagu, has called for immediate investigations and urgent compensation of affected residents following reports of injured herders and livestock killings during a security operation in Losesia, Waso Ward, Samburu East Constituency.

Speaking to the press on 26th September 2026, the council condemned what it described as the shooting and injuring of innocent herders, the killing of hundred of livestock and confiscation of livestock.

The elders said the incidents had worsened the suffering of pastoralist families already struggling with drought, leaving some households unable to meet their basic needs.

The council called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to thoroughly investigate the conduct of security personnel involved in the shootings and take immediate disciplinary action where wrongdoing is established.

It further urged the government to compensate the affected people as soon as possible for the losses they have suffered.

The council also sought Amnesty International’s intervention to provide legal assistance to affected herders and called on the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to investigate alleged injustices.
