The government of Kenya under the ministry of Interior, have been given seven days ultimatum to name the police officers involved in Samburu Security operation that caused the death of over hundreds of livestock, failure to which the Maasai elders will conduct a traditional event to curse the suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on his social media handles, East Africa Legilative Assembly {EALA} member of parliament david olesankok have blamed the government for the killings and vowed to rally the entire maasai community against the government which he says have continued to oppress the maasai in all corners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It is very sad to note the killings of our livestock, our soil have gone, our hearts have gone and our livestock get killed by bullets. what else are we still and what are we silent of even if we are in governmnet?” Olesankok furiously asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Olesankok have also asked the government to provide the names of the police officers involved in the shooting of livestock in samburu east. At the border of Samburu-Isiolo counties whereby a governmnent led operation is going on, failure to which the Maasai culture will take its course in which he held on that it will not go well with any person involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I dont want the usual governmental narratives of press-conferences or investigation is in progress, we want to be told this officers and this was involved. we want to know the criminals who killed our livestock and by name, because we don’t have any blood tire with a government that kills our animals. Livestock is everything as far as the maasai is and we are nothing without the livestocks.” He added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While addresing the media following the livestock killings and intensifying security operation in the areas, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchunba Murkomen maintained that the operation will continue despite the call for its termination. Adding that he has directed the police officer to conduct their duties professionally and avoid injurrying innocent citizens and destruction of property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The intelligence led operation will continue and our officers have been directed not to injur any animal or innocent people but to make sure crimianls are brought to book and illegal arms are restored as envisioned at the beginning of the operation.” Murkomen insisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Various leaders including Samburu county Governor Lati Lelelit have condemned the act saying its is uncalled for, for the residents of Samburu who are going through the menance of long term drought in the areas to experience such cruel act again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Samburu senator Lelegwe Ltumbesi have asked for immediate probe into the alleged killing of hundreds of livestock and shooting of two residents during a security operation in Waso Ward, Samburu East Constituency.
On the floor of the House, Senator Ltumbesi told the Senate that at least 415 goats and 102 cattle had allegedly been killed by security officers within three days, with two residents also sustaining gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
