Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the club until 2030 making him the Premier League’s highest-paid manager. The title-winning Arsenal boss, who took charge in December 2019, will reportedly earn £17 million a year, with the potential to receive a further £3 million in bonuses under the new agreement.

Arteta said committing his future to Arsenal was a privilege, as he praised the people around the club and expressed his excitement about what they can achieve together.

“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said.

“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue. We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

The Spaniard also thanked Arsenal’s owners, Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke, for their trust and support, while highlighting the relationship he has developed with the club’s supporters.

“I’m extremely grateful to Stan and Josh for their trust and support, and feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history,” he added.

“This is such a proud moment for me and my family. I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine and ours in return.”

Arteta took over from Unai Emery in December 2019, making Arsenal his first managerial job after previously working as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.He enjoyed an immediate success, guiding Arsenal to the FA Cup at the end of his first season, which was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he then had to wait several years before adding another major trophy to his collection. That wait finally ended when Arsenal secured the Premier League title earlier this year, having previously suffered setbacks in the Carabao Cup and Champions League finals.

The league triumph proved particularly significant for Arteta, helping cement his status among Arsenal supporters and giving the club further confidence in his long-term project.

As a result, Arsenal have rewarded their manager with a lucrative new contract, despite the announcement coming shortly after one of the club’s most disappointing results in recent years where in their final match before the international break, Arsenal suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Brighton, but the setback has not altered the board’s faith in Arteta.

Instead, Arsenal will be hoping the new contract marks the beginning of another successful chapter, with Arteta expected to lead the Gunners back to winning ways when they host Leeds on Saturday.

The club’s confidence in its coaching structure also extends beyond the manager, with the rest of Arteta’s coaching staff agreeing new deals as Arsenal look to maintain continuity behind the scenes
